18 million Xbox 360’s sold, Blu-Ray drive unlikely
John Schappert has announced that the Xbox 360 has sold more than 18 million units worldwide. When asked for future predictions for the console, he didn’t feel like offering up a comment. When it comes to the recently ended format war, he did manage to say a few words. He would go on to say that it’s unlikely that Microsoft would release an add-on Blu-Ray player for the Xbox 360 because the HD DVD player didn’t sell that well. Schappert would say that the attach rate for the HD DVD player was a very low 3%.

If the HD DVD player sold bad, then I can see why Microsoft would be hesitant to release a Blu-Ray player. Then again, they did have the player overpriced for quite a long time. With Blu-Ray now the industry standard format, they might actually bring is sales if they release a player. Consumers won't have to pick a format anymore, so it could work.
