Bound to happen eventually.... It's one of the most popular engines everyone will use it...

XNA > Unreal Engine - in the eyes of developers, at least. Well, at least I sure hope so.

I agree, I don't see the problem. It doesn't come as a shock to me, what's a shock to me is that they didn't have this already.

Xna is more about building games to run on either xbox, 360, or pc. The unreal engine 3.0 is the graphics engine like renderware which allows a game developer to utilize custom built tools to tweak for any game to get high quality results. I hope microsoft is taking note because that ut2007 was amazing. I know that it will appear on 360 as well, but with the extra power the ps3 has we could see a significant difference in ps3 version of the game.

Just remember Microsoft has more money than Sony, and they have better business sence too. I mean that's how they found Bungie and Halo. I'm sure Microsoft will find another small company with a lot of potential.

From the sound of things, it is being offered as an option for the PS3 development package. This does not mean that it can't be used for 360 games (Hell, the thing is nearly a PC anyways). The big question is: When will these development packages be put into developers hands?

There was just one word missing from that news-brief that could have made all the difference: exclusive. Now Sony can use the engine just like MS can use the engine. And the only thing that I see coming from this is better games from both companies.

I was just thinking about that, no exclusive games (so far) are talked about in conjunction with using unreal 3.0 engine. The ones we know about are Gears of war (360 and pc) and UT 2007 for (Ps3, 360, and Pc). The only game I see that is using the unreal 3.0 engine that is exclusive is fifth phantom saga from sega for ps3. But you never know what can happen when down the line, sega could give exclusivity for 1year like rockstar and port it over the next year to 360. Only game I was very surprised about was 360 exclusive "heavenly sword" and now it is exclusive to ps3. That game looked amazing!

its always good to share the wealth. like variation said, it just means that there will be MORE good games to play. assuming that the developers do their jobs on both sides of the playing field.
