Prey Demo 6/21

First Person Shooter fans can rejoice - the next demo to hit the Xbox Live Marketplace will be none other than Prey.

The game, which is built on an enhanced Doom 3 engine, offers some of the most bizarre and truly groundbreaking game player scenarios ever seen in an FPS. Prey features the ability to walk on walls, manipulate gravity and perform a "spirit walk" by leaving your physical body behind.

The demo is due in the US on the 21st of June and the UK on the 22nd of June, which is next week for those who don't know. It is going to be both a single and multiplayer demo with an hours worth of game play time rumoured. You'll be able to duel in multiplayer over two maps.

"Our collaboration with 3D Realms has been enormously rewarding," added Timothy Gerritsen, CEO of Human Head Studios. "With their help, Prey is sure to breathe new life into the first person shooter genre with a compelling story, innovative gameplay mechanics and dazzling imagery, which is powered by our significantly enhanced version of id Software's original Doom 3 engine."

With a release date of July 14th, this comes as a good time for the 2K Games title.

The game is pretty Fucking cool.

Basically, you are this native American who pretty much denys his roots.
Then Aliens come, you get abducted and you gotta kick some ass.

The game has some mind bending elements to it. Theres one way portals that let you see through them, but when you walk behind them you see nothing. Very trippy. Also, theres a lot of parts where you need to manipulate the map by shooting these gravity lifts. Basically you shoot it, and was becomes the ground. Sounds confusing, because I cant really explain it. Theres more world altering effects, but I dont want to spoil much.

Another huge feature is, that you can leave your body and become a spirit with a bow and arrow, to help walk through things and acticvate switches. Also, it seems impossible to die. When you do "die" you go to this spirit realm and shoot spirts to regain your health or spirit health. Then boom you are back.

But from what I've played, it seems like a very immersive sci-fi shooter.

This game demo was delayed two days, right? If so then it should be out tomorrow so I can play it. I would try the PC version but my PC currently sucks and I'm hoping to get a new one soon. Very soon.

I dunno man, but I hope it's not long. I played the PC demo at Variation's place, and all I can say is: omigodomigodomigodomigodomigodomigod!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't want the game at first, I don't have the $$$ for the game, I don't really have anything to trade-in, but I HAVE to have this game.

The PC demo is great! I had low expectations, but I am really loving it. God damn the game is gorgeous. Haven't tried the MP yet, but im off to do that now.

I went on the prey forums at 3d realms (really nice guys, btw. I was really impressed with the level of interaction), and supposedly they turned the demo into microsoft last week, but microsoft has been having problems with compatibility issues with the recent update. Prey unfortunatly falls victim to this problem.

Since microsoft doesn't release new content over the weekend, poeple are hoping for a monday release, but more likely it will be tuesday or even wednesday.

Ive read mixed reviews about the demo, but ill wait to play it myself before i make any judgement.

Joe siegal (of HH/ 3dr) stated in an ealier interview that the demo was 20% of the final game. This was a reference to content, not time. Since you play five levels, he was merely stating that you only played 20% of the levels, with 23 in mind, and some levels being longer than the entire demo alone. He went on to clarify that the demo, "is actually 10%, but more like 7.5% of the final game" and went on to say that, "and thats in the coolness factor too. You guys have no idea what's coming", which leads to a very promising near future for prey fans indeed.

Conspiracies gave been cycling the net concerning microsfts alterior agenda in the market place. GRAW, which came out with the most expensive DL content to date, released this content at the same time the prey demo was scheduled to be released. SInce that would 'cause internal competition, and it would draw serious attention away from the GRAW content, the prey demo was delayed a week so that UBI, one of microsoft's most prominent third party dev teams, could reap the benefits. Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as internet conspiracies are rarely backed by any real means of proof.

So till early next week, i guess we'll just have to wait and see how this turns out.:huh:

I Dled and beat the demo a few minutes ago. Super game, I thought it was really well crafted thought wise. My hope is that its more than just a few hours long. I hope there is more puzzle type stuff too. Overall though I thought it was really fun.


Also dled and beat Titan Quest demo... WOW great game.

Which is a Sunday. Major Nelson has said that major content is only released Monday-Thursday for the reason that a bug could occur and the weekend the team gets off aparently.

i went home with a group of 4 friends, 1 of which was a girl . They had nothing to do and were hanging out in my room. I said they could leave or watch me play "prey", so they settled down and watched. The story telling elements are phenomenal. Everyone was into it! They screamed, cheered, and sympathized with the characters, and in the end, we decided to have a weekly prey night in which we can all see where the story goes.

I was really impressed by the demo, is all im saying.

Well I just downloaded it about 15 minutes ago and played it for a couple of minutes. I got to the part where I beat the shit out of those two guys at the bar with the wrench.

Question: Does anyone else think way too much blood is shed at the beginning with the little bar incident where you beat the guys with the wrench?. I smack the brother in the chest and blood is flying everywhere.

Love the swearing in the game. The guy is such a rebel.

I have put both the PC and the 360 version up next to each other, I really thought the 360 version would look better. It doesnt, in fact there is a big diffrence. I think I might end up picking this up on PC now, which sucks cus I would rather own it on the 360 for the bigger screen and 5.1 and point and such.

Well the PC version should look better considering you can do higher resolutions and there is more control over the settings.

I really have to say the 360 version is the one I am going to get because it runs better then my PC version. I thought it looked really good and had decent load times.

I just tried the demo again a couple minutes ago, it's a fucking snooze fest. The story is pretty decent, but it's a pretty boring game. Maybe this isn't a Shooter that's for me, and maybe I should play more than a couple of levels, but the interest level just isn't there.

Finally played thru the single player demo today. This game kicks ass. The story telling is incredible, the control is great, all of the crazy shit that goes on in the alien ship is fucked up and I love it. This is a definate buy. It will be a great game.
