Ok... I'm tired of my Shitty Computer.

I want to build a new one because I got 3 year old stuff, and it's all junk. I couldn't even play the HD E3 Videos. I can't play WoW, or even Halo :CE! :flipoff:

It's driving me crazy! I want to stay in the limit of $550 CND. It it possible to get some good stuff with this?

I really don't know what's compatible with what... so I really need some help here.

If you need to know... I want the following things:

*512 MB DDR minimum
*Over 2 GHz CPU
*DVD Burner ( Already got CD, DVD player, and CD Burner
*120 GB Harddrive (currently have 40! Ahhhh! :cuss: I have like 5% left)
*MAIN FOCUS is Video Card - I want a TV Card, that can also play WoW... Halo etc.
*Sound Card, I'm unsure of... With the Motherbord, Can I just get a built in one?
*If still in budget, (Probably Not) 17" LCD (those really flat ones)

Am I forgetting Anything?

Thanks in advace

What's 550CAD in US dollars?

I mean if you want to go cheap.. it can be done, but it won't be pretty. You'll recycle your monitor, your case and unless you want to go SATA, your hard drives.

Take a look at the PC's in the Post your PC thread. Mainly Vipers, Mine, I think Reclaimers and theres a few others with the newer AMD 64s or Intels with PCI-Express support.

People want to know what you've got so they can competently suggest where it would be best to upgrade. So go to http://www.belarc.com, do a scan, strip out the keys section and anything else you want private (DO NOT FORGET THIS PART), and post what it identifies.

Update: The Belarc tool you want to run is called the Belarc Advisor.

400 bucks, eh? That's not a whole bunch to work on. Something is going to get the shaft.
I don't see a graphics card anywhere in this equation unless we aim really low on the CPU and the motherboard. Forget Sata.. and just use that one hard drive he's got.
We can't really make a gaming computer in this budget.
Hell just CPU/PSU/MOBO/GPU will float you around a hundred and better a piece.

He's going to have to mow some more lawns or rob a bank or something. You can cut a corner or two when you're building a 2000 dollar machine.

When you have 400 dollars, there's not a whole lot you can do.
I mean.. let's go cheap like my computer:

MSI K7N2 mobo.. 80
AMD Athlon 2500XP.. 90
6600GTOC.. 123
PSU.. 100

We're already at 393 without tax or shipping. We have't gotten to memory yet, nor have we investigated a hard drive. He can get away with using intergrated sound and nic.

Don't know what computer he has, like if it's a store bought one.
So if it's like a Gateway or Dell.. any of those comp-in-a-box stores, his motherboard won't even work in the cases.

I'd love to see him build a bad ass computer. But we're scraping the barrel here. We haven't even talked about cooling yet, one fan and we're over budget.

Seriously with that small of a budget, just get a Dell. I mean, you can get a 17" LCD monitor with a P4 2.8GHZ w/ 512MB of DDR ram, 80GB HDD, Intel integrated graphics for like $450 if you keep your eye out. Sure, it probably can't run HL2 or Doom 3, but you can run WoW on that.

Well, Me and my dad build it three year ago. We bought all the parts and made it.

$550 CAD actually = 436.758 USD
Say I go up to $600 CAD = 476.487 USD

Not worth it right now I guess... but Can I just add a really good Video Card and A HD with that $?

You can.. but it would be like supercharging a Ford Pinto.
The vid card will only get you so far. You need CPU and memory to get you going.
You'll need a better PSU to run it all and it does look like you need a bigger hard drive.

Look man.. it sounds stupid but if you can front 500 USD, you'll have more options.

Or you can just save your $$$ for the 360. Since that appears to be by FAR the most hardware for the cash.

Edit: Then there's the XO upgrade club. You can buy some semi-old stuff off of us and those of us with cash who are already thinking of upgrading can go for it while still getting a little return out of our old hardware. I've got an 80 GB IDE drive I could part with (probably around $40, would have to look into current sales more though).

You want to go that route... then I have an extra AMD Athlon Barton 2500XP here that I can sell off (you'll get the member price). It's the retail model so you won't be able to overclock it easily, but I recently tested it and it works. I'll say 50 bucks or something like that.

Now you're two components up on a better machine than your current one and you haven't even broken 100 bucks yet.

Oh... oveclocking doesn't matter... I don't want to get into that for a bit of speed. (depending on the cpu though) What's this with "Member price" ? Is there something I'm missing? Do we have an XO Shop? :p

BTW, this is probably all gonna happen in the summer when I can strike up some more $$$.

I gotta get the 360, but If I blow it all on a Super PC :p , I won't be able to... but right now, I have like 30 games I can't play! I can't even wtch Next-Gen videos! :cuss: Crap!

i wouldnt try too much OCing on a computer with an able proc for OCing... and a crap mobo and a crap load of ram... for your money... its gonna be barebone

Personally, I think you're better off waiting until you have some more loot. Trust me, a computer is something you don't want to do half-assed, and there are no components anymore to skimp on.

A gaming rig that can passibly play HL2 can be done with a barebones system, but as was said before, it won't be pretty.
