SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A burglary victim is facing trial on child molestation charges after a thief looking through stolen computer files found photos of him fondling a girl and notified authorities.

John "Robbie" Robertson Aitken, 22, was arrested a year ago after police received an anonymous package containing a computer memory card that had been stolen from his house during a break-in, authorities said.

A letter with the package said, "Please remove this animal from the streets."

Officers searched Aitken's home and found more than 100 child pornography pictures. He was charged with 15 felony counts of oral copulation with a minor and other molestation charges, prosecutors said. The alleged victim was his boss' daughter.

Authorities didn't know who tipped them off until Matthew Ryan Hahn, 26, of Los Gatos was arrested on 19 burglary and grand theft charges and told them he had reported Aitken.

Hahn would not say where he got the stolen memory card and is not charged with the Aitken break-in, but he told the San Jose Mercury News the card ended up in his possession and he was so disturbed by the photos he decided to turn in the owner.

"There is honor among thieves," said Dana Overstreet, who is prosecuting Aitken. "In my case, Hahn is a hero."

However, Hahn has his own legal problems. If convicted of his current charges, he faces a life sentence under the state's three strikes law because of nine prior felony burglary charges.

---

I don't normally stand up for criminals, but I think I'll make an exception in this case. This guy could have just destroyed the card and gone on with his life as if nothing happened. But he did the right thing and turned the card in. I think that action buys him another chance to avoid the 3 strike penalty.

That action gives him another chance at being able to look at himself in the mirror in the morning, but he's a thief and should be prosecuted as one. Thieves are scum.

Shooting a dude in the back of the head with a shotgun isn't exactly the same thing as burglary.

Just because it isnt the same doesnt mean a thief should be let off.....if you commit a crime you have to pay.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be let off without punishment. But to have this crime count as his 3rd strike and thus set him up for a very severe punishment is too harsh IMO.

You people are idiots.

This guy willingly turned himself in so that police could prosecute a truly harmful sexual predator. If you can't see that as a noble action, I hope you drown in boiling hot liquid feces.

LIQUID FECES.

Yeah... MAYBE if it was his first offence or something... but this guy is a repeat thief.

he spent years in jail and wrote fucking antiviolence books, he could have got life in prison and no one should have a fucking problem with that.

"you tellin me if [tookie]'s in the NBA, right now he'd be ok?"

**jayson williams**

it's aight for people like williams and ray lewis to do shit like this, spend no jailtime, but 43 year old tookie deserves to be killed after 16 years of prison.

Alright, he didn't willfully turn himself in so that police could prosecute a truly harmful sex offender.

He mentioned that he was the one who tipped the police off about the sex offender after he was arrested on 19 burglary and grand theft charges. In other words he was hoping for a lesser sentence.

A. Matthew Ryan Hahn is the guy who turned in the child molester. He was arrested for 19 counts of grand theft (theft of property valued over 1000 dollars) and burglary.
So during the commission of one of his burglaries, he steals a computer memory card that has pictures of a child sex crime on it, and he decides to turn the subject in.

If I where the defense attorney, I would ask for leniency in the penalty phase because there would be no way I could realistically ask the court to dismiss 19 individual charges of theft of various levels.
At the most and depending on the amount of verbal judo I could summon, I may ask not to declare this as his third strike.

But you can't ignore the fact that the guy has 19 charges against him and he stumbled on another crime while commiting a crime.

B.
Tookie Williams got what he deserved. I don't care how many books you write while you're rotting away in prison, when you shotgun a guy during the commision of a robbery in the back, execution style, later you shotun two more people execution style, you slaughtered 3 people with a shotgun at point blank range, willfully and intentionally before you founded one of the biggest and problematic gangs in the United States, you will always be a criminal of the highest degree.
Prison does many things, it makes people convert to religion, it makes inmates absolve thier sins to god, it makes them think that by getting consultants to change your image you can write books for kids and act like you are a completely different person..
But you can't escape the fact that you executed 3 people point blank mercilessly with a shotgun and even at one point mocked the dying sounds one of the victims made as life left him on the floor of a convience store.

Tookie got what he deserved. You can change yourself on the outside, you can drum up support and stir racial support, even get moronic celebrities to show some face for you. But when you kill a bunch of people during the commision of another crime, you are a killer and will never escape that.

Let's not forget that five different appeal cases, five different appeals courts examined and reexamined Tookie's case and still after 5 examinations of the evidence at hand, determined him to be a killer by all rights.

There are some things you can work with in your past to get behind and move on from. Executing 3 people isn't one of them.

I couldn't have said it myself. Agreed 100%. I don't think he deserved any sympathy whatsoever. The guy in this case doesn't either, because he is obviously a menace to society with 19 counts. He should be put away for life if he can't stop stealing shit.

Yeah.. after really thinking about it.. comitting the same crime 19 times?
It was a stroke of luck that he found the other guy like that.
Nineteen times the thief of someone elses property.. he needs to go away.

Couldn't all these 19 counts have been at the same time. Meaning he could have been charged for stealing 19 individual widgets.

The news story makes no indication either way. If that was the case, some of those widgets are valued at over 1000 dollars a piece.

woo, he got 1 sexual predator off the streets... hottdam, ONE... theres are TONS of them out there... he still should get what he deserves for doing it 19 times.... 1 good deed should not lessen the punishment off doing something 19 times,

IMO one sexual predator of children is a big deal. That one person could have negatively impacted the lives of several kids.
