No, just... No. The Revolution is bad. Bad.

If the Revolution was $20CAD, I'd go out and buy a case of Jones Soda instead.

I was thinking of getting a PS3 after the 360, but no way I'll get it for $465

I'd like to know where you get your info from. Because, so far all the public is supposed to know is:

- wifi
- backwards compatability
- small size
- wireless controllers

Which part of that doesn't sound appealing? :)

waffle.

Revolution is Nintendo's next generation console, which looks pretty cool if you ask me.

According a an article published i

First of all, their news man sucks. He can't even cut and paste correctly.

Secondly.. cell technology - you're going to pay for something extravagent like that.
I had this feeling that all this push for a the ground breaking cell technology.. something that hasn't ever been used in a consumer entertainment device.. wouldn't come cheap.

It looks better then the PS3 .. though I haven't seen the controller for the Revoluation yet, but it has got to be better then the PS3 controller..

I'll be getting the xbox360... if after the PS3 comes out and it's proven that it's worth owning, and the price drops to under 300.. I'll pick it up if I can.

I refuse to pay over $300 for a game console, no matter the technology or the equivalent street price of the collective parts of the console. I'm thinking that if this price is credible, they are only going to have it there for 4-6 months maximum, then drop it once they start slowing down PS2 game productions. Then it'll be @ $300 for the more casual gamer.

I don't think the article acounts for the much higher cost of living price in Japan. Yes it's 50,000 yen over there and it equates to 465 dollars.. in Japan.. Keep in mind that in Japan I had dinner at this place in Tokyo and it cost me 80 dollars for a hamburger plate, a T-shirt and two beers. That was 80 US dollars.. out in town in the Ripongi district.
It's ultra expensive over there and busting out the U.S. dollars doesn't help.

Sony is smart and they know what they are doing. The price will come down when it hits the U.S.
This piece that IGN has posted is based on a Japanese publication.. published in Japan (of course) Prices are adjusted already and IGN made news based on the currency exchange.. over there.
Sony wants to win this war. It will come down in price once it arrives in the US. Sony knows that 99% of parents are not going to spend that much money on a console for their kids. In order to maximize profit they must move the most product. In order to move product, they must set a competitive price in comparision to the opposition. Sony can eat the losses and still make some money by lowering the price to be in the 360 and Revolution range. Sony's profit would come from volume of sales despite taking a loss per unit.
I imagine everyone takes a loss when putting out a console. You figure the money comes from the game sales anyway so everyone relies on software sales to bolster their income.
It would be stupid for them to place themselves so far out of range that customers would just flock to the next cheapest console.

I think if Sony was going to push the price ceiling of consoles $399 would be the ceiling in the US and that is pushing it. MS is doing the same thing. It would be nice to see a pricing war come out of this but with both machines running some expensive hardware I'm sure neither company wants to go in the red too much.

Everyone seems to be forgetting all the new technology in this system. Of course it's going to be expensive. The system has BluRay, XDRAM, and the Cell Processor.

I'm so torn on what to do now. The Revolution is looking mighty fine, but I will have to wait and see some specs first....

Incorrect. It was somewhere around $180 there, and $250 here. I never understood how it worked that way, but thats why people were speculating $180 for a while, that was teh USD equivilant of the yen price.

and that could mean 500 for the ps3....There's no way in hell I'd ever pay that much for a console. Oh well, their loss.

No way Sony is going to market the PS3 at anything above $400. That's just ridiculous.

I'm thinking the big 3 next gen systems will range from $300-$350, definetly not more.

Yeah, back then people were desperate for decent graphics considering how revolutionary 3D gameplay was becoming. Companies could charge such high prices because people were actually willing to pay that much.

Nowadays its different. Nobody's going to charge that much because they know it won't sell as well as it could if the price is lower.

I remember NeoGeo retailing for near $700 with games in the $150-200 range. That was when you couldn't get arcade games at home, but now you can barely get home games at the arcade.

Different times, different prices.

I'm only going to buy one console...I'm married, so, I don't think I need to explain myself any further. And, admittingly, I'm not exactly sure which one I'll get...probably the 360, but, I doubt I will do it right away (I'll probably eat these words...sue me)

I remember when saturn was coming out and the playstation was on the horizon and it was speculated that the playstation would retail for 399$ US. The saturn dropped first with it's cd based console at 399$ and a few months later at christmas I think the playstation droped for 299$ crushing the sales of saturn and ruining the console in return. Sony is smart business wise and they may be trying to get microsoft to hit that mark and then ship at 50 to 100 dollars less. They did not take a loss on the ps2 seeing it only cost to manufacture 200$ dollars and they sold it for 2 years at 299$. So they can stand to drop the price about 100 or 50 dollars to out wit microsoft. Heck remember the xbox was not on the market more than a year and some months and sony dropped there price to 199$ which automatically caused xbox to lower there price causing them to lose even more money on the xbox.
