Watched a few movies in the last few days.
-------------

In Good Company
(Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, Scarlett Johansson)
*** / ****
- Pretty good comedy. Eric Foreman is a funny guy even when he's not on the 70s show.. but no matter what, he can't shake the Eric Foremaness.. he will likely always be typecasted. Scarlett Johansson plays essentially the same character she did in Ghost World, but shes cute so I don't really care. Semi-predictable until the last half hour. I reccomend this movie.

Best Part: Dennis Quaid's line to his daughters boyfriend, "If you ever give my daughter an alcoholic beverage or a joint, I will hunt you down and neuter you."
Worst Part: Dennis Quaid's ass.

Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)
(Ethan Hawke, Morpheus, The girl who got offed on Sopranos)
** / ****
- People trapped in building. People outside building. They shoot at eachother. Cons / Cops work together to kill other cops. Annoying dialogue from some guy high on meth and Ja Rule. Maria Bello is severly underused. Nothing special from Ethan Hawke. Morpheus is pretty cool. Overall a ho-hum action flick which isn't worth renting.. wait for it to hit TV.

Best Part: The opening 5 minutes & closing 5 minutes.
Worst Part: Everything in between.

Million Dollar Baby
(Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank, Morgan Freeman)
***.5 / ****
- A near perfect movie. The lighting effects are beautiful, especially in the darker scenes in the hospital and the gym. Clint Eastwood really deserved the best director award for this.. he however did not deserve a nomination for best actor, I found him to be a bit out of his element. Morgan Freeman does a great narration just like he did in Shawshank.. finally getting that Oscar that eluded him back in Shawshank. So is this what Hilary Swank is going to do now? Win an oscar, disappear for 8 years, come back and win an oscar. She should, because her performance here was very good.. I did not see a few of the other oscar nominees for best actress, so I'm not qualified to say she earned it.. but it was a very good performance. I couldn't give this movie 4 stars because I was hyped up for it a bit too much. Buy this movie.

Best Part: Most everything.
Worst Part: Some pointless scenes involving Danger. Seriously.. comic relief wasn't need here.. but one scene led to a very gratifying part involving Morgan Freeman.

I'm going to get Assault on Precinct 13 soon, want to get a good deal on it. Just not excited about Ja Rule being in the movie. Since when has he been an actor?

Dude I've only seen the last 45 minutes... (twice) but its wasn't that great-

The main chick says Mother ****er like every sentance and always sounds like a latino-chicky version Marlan Brando- bugged the crap outta me

"Maria Bello is severly underused." Ya but her mouth isnt... if she shut up and got naked maybe...

Assault on Precinct 13 was pretty good, I just finished watching it. Probally a much better theater flick, seems like it would be good.

I agree on Million Dollar Baby. Awesome movie. And when Morgan Freeman does beat that annoying guy who keeps ragging on Danger(if I remember correctly...) I was happy. Happy Happy.

I liked In Good Company also, I haven't seen the others yet.

Topher Grace will probably be typecasted with the Eric Foreman character, but that happens alot. There as some touches of Eric Foreman in his role, but I think that's mainly because that's Topher Grace.

And I liked the ending, it's not the same ole ending every movie has, but it's not bad either.

I watched in good company and I was really surprised by how much I liked it. The ending left me like wtf...but I like those better than predictable ones. Still need to watch Million Dollar Baby, heard it's great but pretty depressing at the same time, hmm we'll see.

Yeah the ending was uneventful, but so much better than what I predicted as the movie went along:

They keep their jobs, foreman continues to work as a partner with quaid.. quaid approves of the romance between him and his daughter. One big happy family.

I loved that part, everyone in the theatre started cheering, that was amusing.

And I loved In Good Company, one of my faviorte movies of this year so far, probally because I'm in love with Scarlett Johansson.

I didn't and won't see Assualt because I saw one preview for it, I didn't hear anything about it after that, than one month later i see the DVD at target. any movie that makes the theatre to DVD transistion that fast isn't even worth a rent.

Couple more short reviews for your reading pleasure.
---------------------------------------------------------------

King Arthur
(Clive Owen, Keira Knightley)
** / ****
- I knew nothing of the legend past, but that doesn't matter. To be quite honest I don't like the time period in history, but I can get over that, as I have in the past with other period movies I have liked (Gladiator). This movie just doesn't execute. Even though it is well over 2 hours long (saw Directors Cut version), the movie feels like it is rushed and dragging at the same time. The movies center point is Arthur and his personal struggle on leading his men into battle.. I think they wanted us to feel his struggle.. but for some reason I was more focused on his knights.. not him. Clive is a good actor, it's not his fault, I am going to have to chock this one up as bad directing. Keira is sexy, that earned this movie it's second star.

Team America: World Police
(Trey Parker, Matt Stone)
***.5 / ****
- America! Fuck yeah! Coming again to save the mother fucking day yeah! Alright, I admit it.. this movie made me want to be an American. This movie has it all.. explosions, lewdness, dirty sex, and terrorists.. all done with puppets. I loved this movie because it pokes fun at everyone equally. The lefties get validation seeing Team America as gungho, stupid, and reckless, just how they see the righties. The righties on the other hand get to see a bunch of the lefty elite get blown to pieces, burned, decapitated, and shot. Just to bring further neutrality to the film, we're all happy to see Kim Jong Il bite it. Matt and Trey pull no punches, their idea to shoot a disgusting sex scene to distract the MPAA from the rest of the lewdness was pure genius.

Through it all, there is a film here. A coherrent storyline that would hold up in a live action bruckheimer flick. A lot of work went into this movie.. if you don't like the South Park style humor, fine.. but never say that all the people that worked on this movie didn't pour everything they had into it. This is a real movie, just with puppets... and the best fitting theme song to ever grace a movie.

Spotswood: "It would be 9/11 times 100."

Gary: "My god, that's..."

Spotswood: "Yes. 91,100."

Joe: "Basically, the worst parts of the bible."

Did anyone else catch this ridicule of Armaggedon? Classic.

Michael Moore's puppet still cracks me up.
