Sony release sent a petition letter to the FCC regarding a change to the Blue Tooth module. In the letter it was revealed Sony apparently intends to release a new SKU of the PS3 with an 80 gig HDD. Is Sony planning to release a more expensive PS3 when it's having a hard enough time moving it's 599.00 SKU off store shelves? Also it would appear that the cheaper of the SKU's has either dried up in production or been discontinued. Many retailers are claiming that their systems show Sony's 20gig HDD SKU as discontinued although this hasn't been confirmed. When contacted about a bigger HDD PS3 model a Sony rep had this to say.
"As mentioned when we made the product announcement for PS3, the system will have different configurations (thus, 60GB HDD with memory card slots and Wi-Fi and 20GB HDD without memory card slots or Wi-Fi both exist)," wrote a Sony PR rep in an e-mail to Next-Gen. "Application to the FCC has been made with various possibilities in mind; however, it does not lead to a new product announcement at this time."
