Wow, this is a great album. I have always been a System of a down fan, but this album just pushes it to the brink. Awesome lyrics, fast paced, great riffs, these guys kick ass. My two personal favorites are B.Y.O.B and Revenga. Honestly one of the best albums I have listened too in a long time.
A must have in my books.

The album's right on par with their debut for me; great energy, catchy, and different from anything else out right now. B.Y.O.B. is great, so unpredictable but still definably one song. Violent Pornography is another one from the album that was amazing, if it weren't for the lyrics it could be some 50's super hero's theme song, it's got that whole bravado sound to it. The other song that stuck out from the rest was Old School Hollywood, just the tone is comical.

BYOB is a great song. Just feels too commercial.
Excellent band though, I'm always thinking about picking up their stuff. Sounds unlike any mainstream hardcore, if there is such a thing.

Wow, Shrew picked out 2 of my top 3 songs on that album...lost in hollywood i believe is the last track and i likes that one....byob and then violent pornography
Violent pornography is my fav, though. But overall, I don't agree with the total message they try to get across, which prohibits me from REALLY enjoying their music. It's almost like a guilty pleasure...they just sound so fucking good.

Eh, listened to it, wasn't very enthused. I've never been that much of a SOAD fan anyway.

Agreed. I want to know when music became a ventilation system for political angst..gets on my damn nerves.

I'm right up Kortiz's alley though. I love the music, can't stand some of the general themes.

What's so wrong with an artist voicing their opinion and trying to change the things they disagree with in society?

I agree, at least I am not a mindless peon listening to the backstreet boys.

Yeah what’s wrong with propaganda, Hitler used it why can't S.o.a.D.? :
Whats wrong with casting deceptive influence through sometimes uniterpretable screaming vocals under the guise of catchy musical entertainment?
The fact that kids (and adults) will be subjected to the message when they think all they are doing is listening to music, is a Trojan Horse. The influence will be carried not only by message but by the entertainment factor of the music. Lobbyist have used music as a means for protest and influence forever, it doesn’t make it wrong- but severely unappealing for many.
S.o.a.D. is cool- I don't care they delude music with a political message I somewhat disagree with (the anti-gov./war)
They have to have something to write about- at least it isn't fat chicks with big nasty backyards- dumb rap and the big butt lovin'
I agree, at least I am not a mindless peon listening to the backstreet boys.
That statement, in regards to the quote, is unintelligible.
I really cannot understand how listening to Back Street Boys implies mindless servitude, being as music is primarily a form of audio entertainment, and that by subscribing to a message (or rejecting) advocated by a certain group makes you any more unrestrained- (I don’t listen to nor do I like nor am I defending the back street boys, only the concept)

Are you really going to use Hitler in a debate? REALLY?
Every president in the history of the U.S. has used propaganda, but sure, let's use Hitler because that's definitely a fair comparison. I'm a big fan of the song from their first album called "Let's Gas Jews Then Throw Them In Ovens." Classic.
Nice choice of words with the propaganda as well, it's got that negative connotation. Of course it practically means 'opinion,' but whatever.

Lyrics to songs actually mean something? Ridiculous.

I think it's funny you're debating on their political view in B.Y.O.B. when they say they don't view themselves as "political".
“Our music is more of a social, rather than political message. So many people tell me about the different things they hear in our music. Everybody takes something different from System Of A Down. Some focus on the social message, some on time signatures, some on the live show. And I like that.”
"A lot of the songs that seem really obvious aren't that obvious if you really get into them, like 'Radio/Video' for instance," drummer John Dolmayan said, referring to a Mezmerize track seemingly about musicians who are in the business for the wrong reasons. (Lyric sample: "Hey, man! Look at me rockin' out/ I'm on the radio.") "There are a lot of things that are deeper and they take a lot of searching."
It's widely assumed that "B.Y.O.B.," the first single from Mezmerize, is an anti-war song, and Tankian admits the band was concerned about releasing it "because we've been pegged as such a political band, and it's something we've been trying to shy away from so people will understand the different aspects of the band." However, Malakian says not to make assumptions.
"I don't see it as a political song," he said. "The lyrics sing, 'Why don't presidents fight the war?/ Why do they always send the poor?' But that's not a thought to politics or anything else. That's just a viewpoint. That's just a question. And I think, more than politics, we try to spark questions that the powers that be don't want you to ask. It's more about a social commentary. I think it's about a few different things as opposed to being pointed at one thing."

Eh, I've never had a problem with political meanings in some songs. On of my fav bands of all time did it constantly, and they made good out of it - Rage Against The Machine.
