Question is pretty self-explanatory. Do you guys think there will ever be a viable third party on this country's political scene? Why doesn't it seem to work here when it works in other democracies like England's?

Personally, I don't see it happening any time in the not-so-distant future (meaning 10 to 20 years or so).

look at Italy's gov't and you will easily see why a 2 party system is the best option

I know alot of countries that have 3 parties are either in turmoil or they have one of the parties be sustanially lower. The reason we have to parties is because in this world ((% of the time theres 2 sides to every issue, yeah sometimes theres an in betwee, but its normally a yes/no thing.

3rd parties let the first two know what direction the rest of the country wants to go in. Otherwise, they are useless..

Also i just remember something for history, most of the times when we have had a Major 3rd party was when the country was drastically changing i.e. Slavery

I think we could see one spring up entirely over the issue of immigration. Ross Perot will probably head it up.

i can actually see the democrat party splitting in 2...there are a lot of new people who want change and a lot of older people who dont

I learned about this back in an intro to american politics last fall...but I can't remember what it was that I learned...

hah

so yeah, basically, it's almost inevitable that there will never be more than 3 dominant parties. Not in the system we have.
