I was actually hoping to see Madagascar, but my 5 year old son insisted on seeing this Sharkboy movie.
OK.. it's in 3D. Not the whole movie, but a majority of it is. Fortunately, the last 10 minutes were not in 3D. Those glasses started to give me a headache. I had to help my son.. and tell him when to put the glasses on and take them off.

To be honest... the movie sucked. Yes, it's a kids movie and it's driven by the 3d graphic segments. Every 4 minutes they show an effect that appears that it's going to ht the viewers. I guess that's to wake up the parents who might have taken a nap.. something I was considering.
The movie revolves the premise that "dreams can come true if you believe in them enough." That's the message, the rest is 3d and special effects.
Some small messages come out... like working with your enemies to defeat a greater evil. Divorce is bad but you're parents still love you.. never give up..
Actually, I think this was a very long moral public service announcement
Anyway, I didn't hate it. It could have been shorter, I felt that it was dragging on there for a bit. Don't expect any believable aspect in this movie. Just go.. for the benefit of a younger family member. By the way.. take off the 3d glasses every now and then so your head won't explode.

To be sure, there is a new 3-D process that is pretty good. That would be the IMAX process that uses oversized glasses and creates a convincing 3-D effect, as in James Cameron's "Aliens of the Deep." That is not the process used in "Sharkboy and Lavagirl," which settles for those crummy old cardboard glasses where the left lens is such a dark red that the whole movie seems seen through a glass, darkly.

I've yet to see one of these 3D movies, basically for the same reason you hated it, the glasses all too often give you a headache. I'm interested in checking out 'Aliens of the Deep', sound like they've fixed the problem.

Anyway, how'd Reclaimer Jr. like it?

Little Rec seemed to like it. I asked him at the end if he liked it and he said yes. I've taken him to see just a few movies because I was just afraid to bring a young child. I didn't want to be that very parent I always hated in the movie theater because their child became a pain in the ass. Rec Jr has done a good job so far and hasn't made me want to beat someone else's ass yet.

A couple of times during the movie my son got scared. I guess some of the scenes were too intense for a 5 year old. It wasn't freaky scary.. but whatever it was, he just buried his head in my armpit.
There was actually a very good 3D highspeed marshal arts battle between Sharkboy and an army of "plughounds". That I liked.

Anyway, yeah.. the joys of parent hood. Nineteen dollars to sit through a movie I didn't like. I was just happy that he was. He seems a little depressed right now since he's discovered that we're moving to a new town.

Now I just need to go see Madagascar. Except now my son seems interested in that Herbie the Volkswagon movie.. I think I might shoot myself before that one.

There was a trailer for "Valiant" a CGI movie from the producer of Shrek 1 and 2. That seemed really cool.

I can't watch 3D movies, I am still scared of them since my grandma made me watch King Kong when I was little, very traumatic experience.
