Hi
As this is my first post I better off by saying hi.
I bought a 360 Premium yesterday and the thing is the DVD drive is very VERY loud.
During an XBOX LIVE ARCADE session the noise is absolutely fine, yes it has fans spinning away but i can live with that.
What I can't live with though is whenever I run a DISC based game, is the loud humming spinning noise that is really irritating the moment you access the disc. Worst part is it doesn't spin-down until you end the game and go back into the dashboard.
As this is a games console, this basically means whenever i want to play a game, i have to put up with all that noise.
It's similar to that when you install a game on your PC, the drive starts whirling away, but fortunately once the install is complete or the game is run, the disc normally spins down and all you have to live with on your pc is the sound of your cooling fans.
I've checked my drive and I have the 'apparantly' quiter Samsung drive????
But it's really that loud, that I'm thinking that maybe it may even be faulty? Well it has to be cos Microsoft, surely would'nt of released a drive that noisy, that never spins down until you end the game..
So I'm thinking, and maybe this is wishful thinking, that maybe I have a bad drive..
The thing is i was playing Fifa about an hr ago, and for the first time ever the drive wasn't spinning away, it was accessing the disc, that i could hear, but the vibrating hum wasn't there. 'I removed the disc and started the game again, but the 2nd time it was there again :O(
Then i read on the net, yup the xbox 360 is loud, and then others saying they cant hear it???
So which is it? do they all make the same whirl and never spin down? was it just a freak thing that, that one time when playing fifa the drive just wasn't spinning.
Should it spin down and i have a bad console?
I cant fathom microsoft ever hoping to sell as much of these as they are hoping for if they all make the same hum all day long.
So i bring my question to you, the users, do i need to take this back and swap it out? or does every xbox 360 spin very loudly until the game is ended?
I called Microsoft and they said it shouldnt be that loud and take it back to the store i bought it from. But then why do others say its LOUD ??
