The Kansas preacher who tried to erect an anti-gay monument in a Boise city park says he's coming to Idaho this week to picket the funeral of a fallen soldier. Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, says God killed Idaho National Guard Corporal Carrie French with an improvised explosive device. Phelps says God is retaliating against America for a bombing of his church six years ago.
French was a 19-year-old Caldwell High School graduate and varsity cheerleader. She was killed June 5 in Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk by an improvised explosive device. French served as an ammunition specialist with the 116th Brigade Combat Team's 145th Support Battalion. Phelps says there is no reason he is targeting French specifically. He says his church will protest any public funeral of soldiers killed in Iraq.
Caldwell Police Chief Bob Sobba said he can't bar Phelps from going to the public funeral. It's scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Albertson College of Idaho.

Someone's just gonna end up killing him pretty soon. He went to a graduation of a high school on some kid from SA that I was reading - I guess there was a Gay & Lesbian Assoc. in the school, so he figured it was his 'god-given' right to go and call them fags and queers. I really hope him, and anyone behind him, dies - or at least gets forced out of this dam country.

Hah, did you ever see how that thread turned out? I read it when they were still planning, but it's lost somewhere in the pages and pages of GBS.

Nah, see if u can find that again - last time I read, they were planning on putting up big sheets of something to block their view of the graduation.

A perfect example of someone's religion completely faping up their mind.

If I were at a loved one's funeral and some jerk was protesting it, I believe I'd have to break his face on the concrete.

I hope someone kicks his ass. He'll be lucky if he doesn't get beaten or killed by someone.

These guys actually attempt to fund their church out of provoking incidents. They provoke them and sue the hell out of people.
I apologise if I'm wrong, but I believe this is a baptist church. One of my main arguments against them has always been their criticism of the Catholic structure. Sure, you get a lot of bad things w/ the Catholic Church (fucking little boys anyone?) but one of the advantages of the hierarchical system is you don't get these crazies running around w/ no supervision. /end derail.

This man is no Baptist. He is a misguided sinner is all - not seeing the word of God, but using it to fuel his hatred. May God have mercy on his soul, and I hope those at the funeral do not sink to his level.

Midnite, is he no baptist because he doesn't claim to be one, or because you don't accept him as one/not really living up to what it means to be a Baptist?

Because he's not even living up to what is required to be a Christian. He has no fear of the Lord, he has no love for his neighbor, and he is definitely not submitting proper respect to his God appointed authorities (as in the government).

Sheesh, its these bigots and snake dancers that give religous people a bad name. Honestly, whenever I hear someone comment on a disaster in a way like "God did this to punish....etc" you know right there you are dealing with a lunatic.
Maybe someone should tell this guy HIS churched was bombed because God was angry with HIM.
What a moron.

god appointed authorities?

Yes. In the Christian religion to the best of my understanding, any authority over a people is ordained by God, and as such, a Christian should respect the office of those who have authority over them. They are to submit to government as long as it does not directly contradict their direct responsibilities to God. Even when it does, they are to peacefully and respectfully disobey, not in the manner this man appears to be doing.
