Wow Sony will stoop to any level to succeed.... And boy are they desperate. :hyst: :hyst:

Ok, here's a new one: with Sony's announcements today they've issued a titled "Next-generation Console Comparison Fact Sheet," (downloadable here [DOC]) so let's see some facts. First up, were you aware that to use your Xbox 360 Core system you're required to buy the 20GB drive add-on, an HD DVD drive, a wireless controller, and an Xbox Live sub? We weren't either. But hey, it says right there, "requires users to buy" and this is, in fact, a "fact sheet." Of course, none of that's actually true, and what's more, were one to use the Xbox 360 Premium console pack in that chart instead of the Core pack, the total would be $399 for a console with that very same hard drive, wireless controller, and Xbox Live Silver subscription (which provides access to everything but multiplayer) -- remember, kids, an HD DVD drive is not required to do anything but watch high def movies -- it has nothing to do with high def gaming. We hear Microsoft ain't too happy about this chart either and is preparing certain legal action, namely because it could be misleading to otherwise unwitting retail employees selling customers game consoles this holiday season. Go figure.

P.S. -In the interest of fairness, it's also worth pointing out the Wii browser is what will cost you after the first 6 months -- not their online service. What's more, if you download the browser before June of 2007, it's straight up free. Otherwise, Nintendo hasn't yet announced details of the cost of their online service so far as we know. Another nice one, Sony.

P.P.S. -We just confirmed with Microsoft that another Sony claim -- that you need a memory unit or a hard drive to use the WiFi adapter -- is also false. You can grab a Core pack with no memory card and plug in a WiFi adapter and get on your home network. Sheez Sony, did we mention we moonlight as fact checkers?

Why would Sony do such an idiotic thing? Oh wait, because they're Sony. I hate those people who say, "You know. If you buy the Wii you'll end up getting three more Wii-motes and Nunchucks. That'll probably be around $400 so you're just better off buying the PS3." And now this is coming from SONY?! Saying that if you buy the Core system that you are required to by the harddrive and HD-DVD drive? That's ridiculous!

well if you think about it, when the system first came out, retailers forced you to buy those kinds of bundles so they could make more money off of you

Well they will do the same for the PS3, and they will probably cost more, so no difference there.

Seems like you guys wanted the original article, so i searched for it and foung it here:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/19/sony-claims-xbox-360-requires-hd-dvd-etc-thus-costs-700/

This is pretty low by Sony IMO. They'll of curse retract this later, but they know the damage will already be done. There's no way they didn't think of just using the Regular and not the Core system, that was a very intentional ommision IMO.

they've already succeeded technologically, they are just trying to get people to overlook the 600 smack price tag.

How have they succeeded technologically? Bluray?

You don't need discs that are 20 gigs for great games, like Sony is promoting. It all matters to what the developers do with the game. I don't see many developers filling up a Blu-Ray disc.

Bluray is useless to anyone without HDTV.

So is the HD-DVD add-on drive that MS is, if you're looking at it that way. Hell, at least Sony has a next-gen drive that you can use to play games with - MS is standing strong on not letting us use the add-on drive for that.

True the addon drive is useless for me as well since I dont have an HDTV thus I won't get one, but atleast I had the choice. Sony's next gen drive could succeed or fail and the console right along with it. Besides like someone else said I think its gonna be a LONG time before a developer takes advantage of the larger bluray discs.

All this new technology is bullshit, they could easily make it more compatible with older systems, but they are trying to force you to buy goddamned 2K dollar hdtvs... it makes me want to cry, then masturbate using the new tears as gentle lubrication.

Wow, I just saw a commercial for a PS3 on gametrailers.com. It was basically saying that since the developers have a bigger disc they can make a bigger game. Well technically true, it would cost a lot more to fill a Blu-Ray disc wouldn't it. I mean right now it cost a high end game like $10 million to probably not even fill a disc. Would it cost more to fill a Blu-Ray, or am I just being stupid.

Of course it would cost more. Bigger game = bigger development cost. Some studios can't even afford to program for PS3 as it is now.

Oh and whoopee about a bigger disc like developers haven't used more then one disc in the past if they needed more room.
